BEETS!

Cie-J and Alanna went to the local orchard on Saturday and dug up their own beets.  Alanna was so proud that she found the biggest beet.  I don't think I could have gotten her to try a beet even if I bribed her with money.  But take her and let her do it all herself and she was dying to try it!!
They cut them up and juiced them and she gulped it down and asked for more!
The down side....beets give you insane amounts of energy.  She was bouncing off the walls before bed time!!

The Many Hair Styles of Alanna:

#1 - Straight.  It's only the second time I've straightened it for her, but she LOVES it!!
 (look how long it is!!)

#2 - In a bun.  She loves this because it looks like Cinderella AND it works for karate.

#3 - Double pigtails.
(She was getting her blue stripe on her orange belt!)

#4 - Bed head!  HAHA!
(4th tooth gone!)

Up At The Top:

Alanna has begged for a year and a half to climb up a mountain.  We finally did it!
We could see the strip from the top!
There was a bench that we sat on for probably 20 minutes.  The view was amazing.
Alanna was thrilled and now we can mark it off her bucket list. =)

Home School Update:

We learned all about evaporation in science last week.  We mixed sugar and water and food coloring together and then let it sit on the counter for several days (checking on it each day of course) to see the water evaporate.  We were left with colorful rainbow sugar crystals. =)  Fun and yummy.

Orange Belt:

 Belting ceremony.
Mr. O'Hara called Alanna up and they bowed to each other as he presented her with her orange belt.

Then she got to run by all the black belts and give them a high five as they cheered her on!  She LOVED this part and can't wait to be a black belt so she can do the same for others.  I actually found her practicing this part one night after I had put her to bed. :)
She was so proud of her new belt.
It's official!!!

Dr. Brown

We went to the Children's Museum and had a wonderfully fun day with friends.  Alanna loves all the pretend places like a grocery store, an auto mechanic shop, a Jamba Juice store, etc.  But her very favorite place is the veterinary office.  She could stay there for hours!  She grabbed the German Shepherd first thing and took care of her for the longest time. =)   When I snapped this picture, I had a weird sensation that I was taking a peek into the future...

Super Toy Con:

I'm not sure who was more excited....
Cie-J or Alanna.

Kindergarten Update:

We wanted to test the theory that eggs can float in salt water.  We took two glasses and filled them with water.
Then we stirred ten tablespoons of salt into one of the glasses.
Next we dropped an egg into each of them.  The one in the regular water sank immediately.  Alanna was SURE that it wouldn't float in the salt water.
But it did!!  So much fun!

Schooling in jammies and wild hair is great too!  LOL!

Tenth:

Cie-J and Alanna worked really hard to surprise me with balloons and a banner for our tenth wedding anniversary.  It was really sweet.
Cie-J hung up ten balloons and on each one, he taped pictures and memories from where we were at in that time of our lives.  Alanna helped him illustrate the note cards.
He even included my sweet little puppy Tucker.
I miss him so much!
He called this one "the wiener that started it all"!!  HAHA!!  We ate wienersnitzel with brochen in Gremany.  Yes, that is a hotdog duct taped to a balloon...such fun to go down memory lane.

Here's to ten more and then ten more after that!!

Long Hair:

Alanna requested that I post this picture so that everyone can see how long her hair is getting!

Home School Update:

We had our 100th day of Kindergarten!!
We celebrated by counting out 100 Fruit Loops and stringing them on a necklace.

Then they promptly ate them.
The End.

Ring From A Neighbor:

Our sweet neighbor Ms. Salina saw Alanna out on her bike and flagged us down.  She said she was shopping and saw this ring in a store and just had to to get it for Alanna.  How sweet is that?

Alanna ran inside and drew her a picture that included her dog with his tongue sticking out and wrote "Thank you for my ring" all by herself.  It was so sweet!  We have been blessed with two great neighbors that we have gotten to know over the last year and a half.

Also....Alanna looks so grown up in the picture.  Ahhhhhhh!! Stop time!

Breaking A Board:

Alanna saw this picture of herself and asked why she was blurry.  I told her she was just too fast...kind of like a ninja!  She loved that answer!  HAHA!

Afterwards, her instructor, Mr. O'Hara signed her board and encouraged her to keep working hard.  We may have to frame her first board and this picture some day. =)

Home School Update:

We learned about evergreen trees and deciduous trees in school last week.  Alanna started a nature journal and we took a nature walk to see how many of each tree we could find in our neighborhood.  Alanna was thrilled to find these two pine cones.  One was still sealed shut with it's seeds inside and the other was completely open with all the seeds gone.   It is so much fun to read about something in our house and then go outside and see them with our eyes too!!

Friday Funnies:

Cie-J and Alanna were having a Nerf gun fight and I just had to get a picture.  Sometimes my finger holds the button a second too long and it snaps two pictures....
...And I ended up catching Cie-J worried for his nether regions!!!
 HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Homeschool Update:

We officially finished our math book #1!!  HOORAY!  Alanna was so proud of herself!  She has worked really hard and according to the government's "Common Core standards for Kindergarten", she is already doing first grade math!  We have just started book #2.
This girl loves math.
We celebrated with a scoop of ice cream!

Second Tooth Gone:

She was super excited!!  The Tooth Fairy brought her a dollar bill folded into a heart.  This may be her trademark from now on. =)  She also left her a trail of pennies, nickels, and dimes that she got to count the next morning.  That is what we have been working on in math!  That TF is a smart one.
But there is only enough space for one adult tooth to come in. =(

Orthodontist here we come....

Recycled Percussion:

Because Cie-J is a veteran, we are able to go and see some Las Vegas shows for free.  One that is offered to veterans is Recycled Percussion.  They won the show "America's Got Talent" several years ago and have traveled the world ever since.  They've just recently opened a show on the strip.
As you enter the theater, they give everyone a drum stick and a pot or pan or bowl to bang on.  This was Alanna's favorite part!  They also give out ear plugs.  That was Cie-J's favorite part.  HAHA!  This show was LOUD!!!!
These guys are AWESOME and had a really entertaining show!  They beat all kinds of things and make music from it.  There was never a dull moment.  Or a quiet one.  Did I mention it was loud???
This guy gave a shout out to his grandmother who had just passed away, and played a solo of sorts in her honor.  It was a really sweet moment.  She was the one that bought his first drum set.

We had such a blast and are SO THANKFUL to shows like this one that donate tickets to veterans!
